Mag Ii Gun Controller Driver

  • So far the only thing that really nails it for VR on the market is Razer Hydra. It doesn't exactly looks like a gun, but what do you care - you can't see it in the Rift - and besides, this is an advantage because it could put some buttons and sticks to it's top part, which would be unavailable for gun-like armature.
All other controllers (including MAG II) are just keyboard and mouse replacement - fancy gimmic, nothing more. They weren't designed as VR input devices and simply don't work as such.

Well for example watch this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPSqM-g7_r0
The guy is using some type of rifle controller, I either want the same controller or something similar (because I plan on using it with the virtuix omni (once I get it) but for now I want to get a rifle controller (just to feel more emerged into the game.)
so heres the controller I was looking at on amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Cabelas-Top-Shot-Elite-Firearm-Controller/dp/B004FDYTI2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1387278773&sr=8-1&keywords=Top+shot+elite
it looks like the exact same controller just in white (and the scope is removable).
would the top shot elite be able to work?

  • Haven't you noticed? He was aiming using his head. The gun was there because it had actual trigger.
The VR gun must support 6 degrees of freedom driftless motion tracking with absolute positioning. So far the only device that actually does that is Razer Hydra.
  • I had the MAG II gun. It was OK, not great.
The plus side was that it was basically plug-and-play, and had a good default configuration for games like Left4Dead. There were some problems with it, basically it only worked well if you are sitting/standing still facing one direction. You can't really use it if you want to stand and turn 360 degrees like you would want.
    AMD Ryzen 7 1800X | MSI X370 Titanium | G.Skill 16GB DDR4 3200 | EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 | Corsair Hydro H110i
    Gigabyte RX Vega 64 x2 | Samsung 960 Evo M.2 500GB | Seagate FireCuda SSHD 2TB | Phanteks ENTHOO EVOLV

depends on the game being played, in Arma the gun will do the aiming and you head is completely independant. Like it is for real.
I would like to see someone rotate around in a circle with Hydras as well, only good if you are playing a bondage simulator and like getting tied up.
I am looking at trying out a Mag II for myself, not overly expensive (dirt cheap in fact) and completely wireless.
I am not looking for a 360 usage though and will remain thouroughly sat on my backside while using it, the Rift isn't wireless either and I haven't quite convinced myself to hang the cable from the roof yet.
Edit: Looks like there could be a market for decent gun controllers in the near future though, nice real gun based models would sell better as well. The Mag II just looks a bit daft, luckily I will have a Rift over my eyes to stop me seeing it.
  • You don't seem to pay attention to imporant details:
    1) absolute positioning
    2) 6 degrees of freedom
Unless your device of interest supports that, don't even bother.
